6/17/14 Backcountry Tarpon Fishing in June

Rainy day but we caught mullet first thing in the backcountry.  Set up in the channels and saw a few fish rolling.  Last of the incoming tide.  Finally got a bite though it took a little bit, caught a nice 30 lb tarpon and a few sharks.  After that we bent the light rods – trout and nice snappers, and finished our day with about 20 snook.

6/16/14 Tarpon Fishing June Florida Keys

Fished in the backcountry today.  I had yesterday off and the day before that we did not tarpon fish but had a fun day doing other stuff.  Today we got some mullets early on, with the last of the incoming tide one of my good spots in the backcountry had some bait.  We then did some light tackle fishing which was very good.  The rain chased us around a bit, but we fished one of the channels back in the flamingo neighborhood around noon time.  Had 3 tarpon bites, and got one to the boat on the leader but we pulled the hook on him.  Smaller fish in the 30-40 lb range, but good to see them they usually start stacking up this time of year back there and if you hit it right, it can be great fishing.

6/13/14 June Tarpon Fishing in Flamingo

Well we ran off east cape sable today west of flamingo.  We started the day with some rod bending action – trout, snapper, jacks, etc…  It was tough to get any bait, not much for mullet around though I had some from the day before.  And ladyfish were slim to come by even too!  But we set up off the beach in a deeper area and we caught a big shark, a nice cobia, and this gorgeous 50 lb tarpon.  My anglers were thrilled they had never salt water chartered before.  Very nice people the type you’d love to have as customers every day!  Congrats Heather on your first tarpon.  We tried around locally in Islamorada for the last hour of the day, did not see any tarpon with the hard falling tide that looked good, but we did see some permit but they did not bite for us.
