6/20/14 June Backcountry Tarpon Report

Well tried to mess with the tarpon this morning in the backcountry.  We caught some mullet early and ran a bit to some further channels that had supposedly been good the last few days.  We did not see much, we did hook 1 tarpon we lost pretty quickly.  Though we had a great day after that catching a couple big sawfish, goliath groupers, and plenty of snook, redfish, trout, snapper, and sharks.  Tomorrow I’m doing the snook and redfish thing probably not tarpon fishing.  We did fish last night and it was tough, weak incoming tide with clear water, we had 1 bite we missed, and then when the tide turned and things looked good the rain came and chased us in.

6/17/14 Backcountry Tarpon Fishing in June

Rainy day but we caught mullet first thing in the backcountry.  Set up in the channels and saw a few fish rolling.  Last of the incoming tide.  Finally got a bite though it took a little bit, caught a nice 30 lb tarpon and a few sharks.  After that we bent the light rods – trout and nice snappers, and finished our day with about 20 snook.

6/16/14 Tarpon Fishing June Florida Keys

Fished in the backcountry today.  I had yesterday off and the day before that we did not tarpon fish but had a fun day doing other stuff.  Today we got some mullets early on, with the last of the incoming tide one of my good spots in the backcountry had some bait.  We then did some light tackle fishing which was very good.  The rain chased us around a bit, but we fished one of the channels back in the flamingo neighborhood around noon time.  Had 3 tarpon bites, and got one to the boat on the leader but we pulled the hook on him.  Smaller fish in the 30-40 lb range, but good to see them they usually start stacking up this time of year back there and if you hit it right, it can be great fishing.
