Got out with the family and friends today. We had some leftover mullet though caught a handful of fresh ones on the way over. Big rain storm blew up when we got into the backcountry so we were chased way up to the east, though were able to sit on the edge of it and fish in one of the channels. It worked out well for us, we hooked a double header tarpon right away that we caught! After that my wife Liz caught a tarpon too. Got in on the right hungry pack. After that we decided to try some snook fishing and we caught a few baits for that, though they weren’t easy. Picked away at some snook and a few other creatures. Then tried another spot for tarpon on the way home. A place I’ve never really tarpon fished before but have seen fish in a few times. It was worth it we saw a couple tarpon roll when we got there. Caught a big blacktip shark, then hooked something that cut us off we weren’t sure what it was, then finally got a 60 lb tarpon. I landed him myself, have not done that in a while! He came in pretty easily though only a 5 minute battle. Anyways great day and good to have success trying something new! Day off tomorrow though booked tuesday and thursday, maybe some other stuff will fill in to! 4 for 4
8/8/15 Everglades Tarpon Fishing in August
Christ and Jim were with me again today. We were gonna mix it up a little more today. We caught some mullet on the way back and gave the tarpon a shot early. Saw a lot of fish as it got slick calm in the channels where we got the one yesterday morning. Fish rolling two at a time. They were not very happy though we moved around a little and fished for about 45 minutes before getting a bite out of them. A nice 60 lb fish Chris landed. After that we did not see them showing much anymore, fished a little while longer and then decided to try and catch some bait for snook. We were successful with that and caught a few snook, plus some jacks and trout, and by 11:15 the boys were done… very hot! So we came in a little early and still had a great day. 1 for 1
8/7/15 August Tarpon Fishing in Flamingo
More tarpon action today I had Jim and his son Chris out. They are also fishing with me tomorrow. We had a good day caught a little bait on the way out and had a bit leftover from yesterday. We fished some of the channels and got Chris his first tarpon right off the bat a nice 35 lber. After that it got very weedy and we moved around a bit, jumped channels, but no more tarpon action. We did get a few sharks. We caught some dinner later on snappers and some sea trout. Then gave it a try out off the beach around noon time for the last little bit. Not much where we first anchored though I did see a little surface activity splashing and such a few hundred yard from us. We moved over there and put the baits out and soon we hooked a tarpon! Chris had another one on and as he fought it, Jim hooked up on one too. Making for a nice double header! After that the boys had enough we made our way back home. Will probably tarpon fish a little tomorrow but snook are on their minds so we may dedicate most the day to that. 3 for 3
