5/23/19 Tarpon Fishing Islamorada in May

Windy day but a good one with Don and Vicki. Don wanted a tarpon so we went after that first. We were lucky and got one right off the bat, a nice 70 lber. Aftwards we got a few sharks, and we decided to keep moving and try some other things. Got into a few snook, Vicki landed a real nice one. But the sharks were bad we lost a few to them, and had to lock our drags down to try and get the fish in quicker so we broke the rest off before the sharks could get them. We switched gears and fished some other areas for reds. Didn’t find a big group of them, but got one nice one along with a few trout and other things. Afterwards we tried a different snook area, Don got a nice one but then again another shark showed up! We lost one to him and hooked a few more but again pulling so hard to keep them from being eaten we didn’t get any more in the boat. Oh well it was still a great day and Don got a slam. Off the next couple days looks like the wind will blow, then getting a little nicer next week hopefully.  1 for 1

5/22/19 May Backcountry Tarpon Fishing in the Keys

Fun fishing with Jared and Guy! We found a hungry pack of tarpon early. Trouble keeping them on the hook, but Jared got one to the boat finally. After that it slowed down but we got a few sharks. We decided to go find some snook which was very good again. Nice size line siders on our light gear. We then found a good school of redfish with some trout mixed in. Rod bending action every cast. We looked for permit to finish up, hoping to get lucky again but didn’t find them today. We did see a few more tarpon after that but no bites though a few more sharks. Back fishing tomorrow then a few days off. Looks like the winds will be kicking up for a few days.  1 for 4

5/20/19 May Charter Fishing for Tarpon in the Florida Keys

Got a nice one for Logan today! We started out in the backcountry where we had some good luck last week. Saw a few fish back there early, but not very responsive and didn’t seem like too many. We caught a variety of sharks though. Checked several other areas back there and just didn’t see much for tarpon life, though the sharks kept is busy. We decided to give it a whirl back in Islamorada for the last hour. Logan ended up getting a nice 90 lb tarpon to finish up the day! Some days you are in them all day long, other days you are happy to get one – that’s tarpon fishing. We will be back at it tomorrow, likely sticking more around town.  1 for 1
