7/12/14 July backcountry tarpon fishing in Islamorada

Good fishing again today.  Had bait already so we went right to fishing.  Had a good couple hours of falling tide in the backcountry everglades in the tarpon channels.  We went 3 for 3, a smaller fish, a medium 40 lber, and the last was a nice one of maybe 65 lbs.  Not a bad way to start the day!  Also had a couple sharks.  Later in the day was tough though we managed to get a few keeper trout and some mangrove snappers for dinner.  The islamorada tarpon fishing in july is staying consistent!

7/11/14 July Islamorada Tarpon Action in the Everglades

Got out there early again today.  Caught bait in the backcountry and went to the channels I’d fished yesterday.  It was good, second bait in the water was eaten almost instantly!  A nice tarpon of about 75 lbs.  We had some other shark action, a big barracuda, and a big bull shark.  Then we landed another tarpon of about 55 lbs.  So 2 for 2 on the morning and then we went and tried some other stuff the rest of the day.  July islamorada tarpon fishing has been consistent in the everglades.  It is one of my favorite times of year to fish because you really have it almost all to yourself (all month I think there has maybe been only one or two other boats tarpon fishing within a few miles of us in the mornings).  Also the bait is really consistent and easy to catch making for good fishing.  Back at it tomorrow I have bait saved from today so will have lines in very early!

7/10/14 Florida Keys Tarpon Fishing in July

Well today I had a full day fishing in the islamorada backcountry again.  Yesterday I fished a half day for tarpon and we struck out… no bites but we did catch a half dozen sharks.  Unfortunately the half days this time of year can be tough as I am running in the backcountry which takes close to an hour, and then sometimes have to catch bait (which we did quickly).  Even staying a little longer it only leaves a couple hours to fish.  There were a few tarpon in the channels but we got there a little late catching the slack tide.  Anyways it happens that is fishing but today was very good again.  I had bait leftover from yesterday and we got an earlier start and caught the last 45 minutes of the falling tide.  Had 3 bites and caught 1 tarpon, then we caught another on the incoming tide a bit later so went 2 for 4 plus a few sharks.  Spent the rest of the day snook fishing which was pretty good and got 1 redfish also completing a ‘backcountry SLAM’ for one angler!
