3/18/15 Everglades tarpon fishing heating up

Lots of fish again today.  We had a bit of north wind in the morning, followed by it laying out to nothing, followed by some westerly wind in the afternoon, then south when we got close to home on the way in.  Couldn’t make up it’s mind.  But light breezes and the fish were thick.  The tarpon weren’t feeding very actively but were definitely around, we saw plenty of rollers and a few busting and free jumping.  We caught a couple along with a nice bull shark fishing fresh mullet.  As it did the last couple days after the tide started to really roar in, the weed got very bad and you could not longer really fish the channel.  So we finished the day with some triple tail and trout.  I’ve heard there were a lot of fish further up off the mainland and much less red weed to deal with, so may venture up there tomorrow.  2 for 2

3/17/15 March Tarpon Fishing in the Everglades

The tarpon showed up in force today.  Hundreds of them were rolling in channels all across the backcountry and off the mainland everglades.  We were not really able to catch bait this morning and I had a group trip with multiple boats.  So we just caught some smaller ladyfish and fished them while tarpon were rolling all around us.  We caught a shark then hooked a nice 100 lb tarpon we landed.  After that we tried to catch some mullet and got a few but they were very tough with it being slick calm.  We fished a bit more with them, however the ‘red weed’ we get in the gulf channels got really bad and you almost couldn’t keep a bait in the water.  We finished our day in the gulf catching massive bull sharks, tripletail, and some other critters!  Tomorrow we are definitely putting the time in early for the mullet and I expect it should be game on.  1 for 1

3/16/15 Tarpon Fishing in March Florida Keys Everglades

Gave the tarpon a try again today.  The last couple days one day I had double half days, we mainly snapper fished and did try for about an hour for a tarpon – no luck but we did catch a big sawfish.  Yesterday we did tarpon fish for a good part of the day, had some shark action, but again no tarpon bites.  Yesterday the weather got very nice though I did not see any fish rolling in 3 different areas we fished.  Today we did start seeing a few fish, though not as many as you would hope for slick calm conditions in march!  Though we did get one to bite I only had half a dozen quality baits and it was a nice 65 lb fish.  We also caught plenty of sharks.  Perhaps after the next moon some big groups of fish will move in and stay for a while.  1 for 1
