6/2/17 June Everglades Tarpon Fishing out of Islamorada

Got out with Bob and John again same crew as yesterday.  We found the bait balls in the same areas as yesterday, very nice to see hopefully that’s a hint at a little consistency in the bait department!  We loaded up and headed back to where we found a lot of fish yesterday.  Today though it was a different story, fished a little bit and kept our eyes peeled, but didn’t see any signs of ’em.  It was a little rough too, so we bailed after 40 minutes and hit the channels.  We didn’t see much there at first, but eventually saw a big splash of a tarpon busting and got near him.  We had a few sharks then got a nice tarpon.  After landing him, we noticed a ton of fish rolling around us.  Probably a hundred or so daisy chaining and rolling hard… but I had a feeling these fish wouldn’t eat.  They put on a good show though and eventually just disappeared.  We moved around down the channel, and then we hooked another fish that we jumped off.  About 20 minutes later we hooked a double header that we landed which was very exciting!  After that the tide quit, we caught a few more baits, and then tried the last of the falling tide at the channel mouths.  Saw a few fish, but not bites though did catch a few more sharks.  The rain was heading in our direction and we headed home taking a good bath.  But all in all another great day!  Have the same guys the next 5 days hopefully fishing will stay good for us.  3 for 4

6/1/17 June Islamorada Tarpon Fishing Report

Well we rang June in with a bang!  Thought it might be a little tough as we lost our good tide for bait catching early in the AM.  But we found a few baits, and then came across a couple huge schools while running out to find tarpon which was a nice find, I loaded up enough for the next couple days just in case things are tough!  Anyways no tarpon in the first stop where we got one early yesterday, they seemed to have vanished.  As I’ve said lately, they are moving around a lot and today was no different.  The next stop we found a few, didn’t see much but saw a few on our electronics.  We waited it out and got a nice 75 lber!  The tide quit then and we ran out to a different area where I hadn’t been lately.  Several days ago I had tried out there, but we saw absolutely nothing, and I figured I’d just give it a quick look while waiting on the tide change.  Anyways we lucked out, the tarpon were there.  Not showing too well, but we got on them several times.  Ended up getting 3 out there, and even had a shot at a double header but the 2nd fish came unbuttoned.  All in all a fabulous day considering it’s been a little bit tougher lately though fishing has been OK if you work hard at it like we do.  Hopefully tomorrow is nearly as good!  4 for 5

5/31/17 May Tarpon Fishing Islamorada Everglades

Got out with Kevin and his dad Patrick today.  Tarpon was the fish they desired.  We caught some bait early in the backcountry.  Likely going to be the last day today or tomorrow that will work, as our tides are switching back to falling in the early morning.  Hopefully can find an area to get some bait this coming week as it’s definitely getting tough this time of year!  Anyways we found some tarpon in the channels early, had a couple bites straight away and Kevin caught a nice 100 lb fish!  Large one for back there this time of year.  After that the tide quit while we were fighting him as it took a little while.  The fish seemed to dry up after that.  We tried another channel and didn’t see too much, but after 30 minutes we got Patrick a tarpon about a 45 lber.  After that we decided to mix it up and caught a few pilchards and got a few snook in the backcountry creeks.  All in all another great day… fishing isn’t easy but if you work at it, it’s been OK!  Back at it tomorrow.  2 for 3
