8/14/2020 August Florida Keys Tarpon Fishing Report

Well been on the tarpon still the last few days.  August has continued to impress me.  We’ve still been working the same school of fish as of a few days ago but they’ve stayed fairly happy.  We caught 3 yesterday and then moved on to other stuff.  Today we had to work them a little more and move a few times, but we did manage to land 3 again, and put another 3 or 4 in the air.  After we got situated we got several bites.  But some times the fish are moving around a lot and you have to move with them… other times you can sit and they keep coming to you which is nice.  But overall still a great bite and again today we did other stuff later, decent snook and redfish fishing and still quite a few tripletails floating around.

I’m off for a few days over the weekend, and have a couple days booked next week.  But again things are really slowing down now that mini season/early lobster season is done with.  I feel like we are going to continue to have a productive August for tarpon as July was a bit slower this year.  And September/October can be good so don’t sleep on that.  Also I offer some discounted trips in those months, so you if you want to book a couple days it’s a little more affordable.  Plus rooms at Bud & Mary’s are on off season rates too.  Also be sure to check out and subscribe to my YouTube channel for some video reports, and more fishing shows as things slow down a little for me these next few months.

8/11/2020 August Everglades Tarpon Fishing

Got out with Thomas and Rebecca for a full day!  We fished an area I hadn’t been in a little bit, there were a good amount of fish there a couple weeks ago before the tropical storm graze but since then it had dried up.  But we checked first thing in the AM and it was loaded!  We ended up catching 6 tarpon in under an hour – amazing!  Mostly 30-40 lbers, but we hooked a couple double headers just simply as good as it gets.  After that we left ’em alone but there were a few more for the taking.  We finished the day with some tripletails, jacks, and had a couple snooks get eaten by sharks unfortunately.  But August fishing for tarpon is very good, seems we are getting are excellent ‘summer bite’ a little late this year.  Days are available the last couple weeks, and plenty in September too that can still be good don’t sleep on it!

8/8/2020 + 8/9/2020 August tarpon fishing in the Florida Keys!

Got out with Mike and Joe for a couple of days.  Day 1 we focused on tarpon in the backcountry.  We found a nice fish early on, a good size one for the summer 75 lbs or so.  We got drenched in the process of fighting her but it was well worth it!  After that things slowed down but we found some more fish later in the day and had a fantastic end to the trip landing 3 more tarpon!  Also caught a tripletail, some sharks, and a few other odds & ends.  Today we focused on some goliath grouper and we caught a half dozen of those, smaller fish in the 5 to 30 lb range mostly on lighter tackle which was fun.  But we caught another tarpon on the way home.

Anyways the fishing in August is looking pretty good still for tarpon.  We’re seeing a lot of bait around and have had lighter winds, and sticking more to the easterly direction aside from the tropical storm we had nearby a week ago.  So far it seems a bit more consistent than our July, so don’t be surprised if we have good fishing through into October for tarpon.  After this coming week, I have plenty of availability.  Don’t be afraid to ask about tarpon fishing, I’ll shoot you straight if I think it’s worth going or not – to be honest in the off season I’d rather stay home if I don’t think the fishing is going to be good.
