7/6/13 Florida Keys Tarpon Fishing in July

Well after some days off and a few half day snapper/trout trips, got back to doing a little tarpon fishing today in the everglades.  The july florida keys tarpon fishing has been decent, with smaller 4o-60 lb fish being found in some of the backcountry channels.  Mullet were not real easy we had to wait till the tide really fell out before they got off the flats, and had to be patient but ended up getting a couple good throws and probably 25 fresh bait mullet.  We tried fishing off east cape though mostly just sharks there, and then tried some channels around flamingo on the later incoming tide.  We had bites pretty quick, and ended up catching 1 out of 3 possibly 4 bites in an hour.  This time of year you may have to look around a bit for tarpon they can be there one day and gone the next for no reason – but if you find them and have the fresh mullets you can usually get some good action!

7/2/13 July Evening tarpon fishing in Islamorada

Well despite horrible looking weather coming in late this afternoon we made it out this evening for a july night tarpon fishing in islamorada trip.  We had plenty of fresh dead mullet from the other day plus a few live ladyfish and crabs.  The mullets did the trick though we went 2 for 2 dead baiting close to home, nice fish of 75 lbs.  I had Jeff Cox long time barn customer of Bud n Marys who actually had never caught a tarpon so he was very excited to not only get one but two!  We had incoming tide most of the evening though it did switch around 7:30, strange tide this morning it fell for almost 8 hours.

7/1/13 July Islamorada Tarpon Fishing Report

Well a good start to July for us.  It was very windy today 15-20 mph, and threating weather for the last part of the day though we never got wet.  We mashed the mullet this morning, 1 throw caught a cooler full which was nice.  We ran right to where we did well july tarpon fishing islamorada the day before.  The bite was not red hot like it was though different tide.  We did have one tarpon on for a while we lost plus caught a blacktip. Then decided to do stuff with the little rods which was good lots of trout, and some nice black drum around some islands.  Went back to try again later on the start of the falling tide.  Caught a nice 70 lb fish in the first 10 minutes, plus a lemon shark, and then that was it.  Tried around town as we did run from some weather, but no more luck.  Still a great way to start our july florida keys fishing for tarpon.
