Fishing got tough for us again today with the south southeasterly wind kicking up. We found some big balls of mullet again on the way out so catching bait was easy. But boy did the tarpon pull a vanishing act. We tried one of the backcountry channels first thing since we were waiting on a tide change in the area where they had been the last few days. No life just a few sharks. We then hit the beaches and I never saw a fish for miles. We fished a few areas where they were the last few days but only a few shark bites. We ran a long way and eventually cut around one of the beach corners and saw a few tarpon free jumping. Got lined up and saw a couple roll nearby and thought we were in them. Though only a few more shark bites and then never saw the tarpon again. Tried running around the beaches some more and never saw a thing, we fished another area and more sharks. After that we bent the light rods with some trout and snapper which was good. Finished up trying for tarpon again, ran around a couple different channels trying to locate some but did not see much. Finally saw a free jumper in a channel and fished it hard and moved 3 different times, but no bites unfortunately. Anyways thats about the story of the year, have a few great days and then boom they keep you honest! Back at it tomorrow. 0 for 0
7/9/16 July Tarpon Fishing Florida Keys
Got out with Dave and his son Joe today we had some mullet from yesterday though we caught some more on the way as we ran into some huge schools out in the gulf. We also caught some live pilchards for bait too for later. Anyways tarpon fishing was good we caught a double header right off the bat. Then the sharks started getting us. We moved around a bit and eventually found some tarpon rolling elsewhere and got another one. Then we decided to give the snooks a try and we caught lots of them plus a juvenile goliath grouper. Great day I have them again tomorrow! Still have plenty of openings towards the end of July it’s a great time of year to fish. 3 for 3
7/8/16 Everglades Tarpon Fishing in July
Got out for a full day today with Cory and Sarah. Found the mullet pretty good and we caught 50 or so baits in a couple throws. Nice for them to be easy for a change it’s been hard to find mullet in the mornings and that in turn means more time bait fishing and less time tarpon fishing, and sometimes tough to get any at all which means having to goto plan B! Anyways today it was easy so I was happy. We went off the beaches and found a lot of tarpon free jumping. Sharks were very bad we probably caught 2 dozen sharks but did get a couple tarpon bites, both of which we landed so that was good then finished the day up with some trout for dinner. Busy week for me I am fishing the next 6 days straight will probably be mixing it up a little but for sure fishing for tarpon some too! 2 for 2
