3/22/15 Florida Keys Bridge Tarpon Fishing

Well I was suppose to have the day off today though I switched it around with next Thursday.  I had a regular of mine Alex who had me booked that morning but was able to switch it to today which worked better for me.  It proved to be a good move.  I had plenty of mullet from yesterday afternoon which we had caught, and caught a few livies on the way out this morning.  We set up where the school of fish was yesterday with the last trickle of falling tide.  I put the live mullet out and action was almost instant we had a couple cheap shots, missed one bite, then a few minutes later hooked this nice 50 lb fish.  We landed him and had a few good jumps.  Alex was done after that and we went meat fishing which was excellent we got our limit of hogfish and came home.  I have the next few days and then Thursday and Sunday I finally have a couple days off after going for a month straight!  1 for 2

3/21/15 Half day islamorada tarpon fishing report march

Hung around town today tarpon fishing as I just had a 3/4 day we ended up cutting to a half day.  We caught a few live baits this morning they weren’t easy but enough to get by.  Fished down by channel 2 bridge and found quite a few fish in the bay.  We had the start of the incoming tide and flat calm.  At first it was a little weedy but it cleared up.  We got the fish going OK it took a little work and moving around but we got lined up and they started getting happy.  Quite a few ‘cheap shots’ on the live mullets plus only had a few decent size ones, the rest were very large baits too big for the tarpon to eat almost.  But we hooked and caught a couple and had another 4 solid bites, plus several other cheap shots and busts.  Good fishing for a half day close to home!  2 for 6

3/20/15 Tarpon Fishing Islamorada

Tarpon were not super cooperative today.  We fished way back in the ‘glades and there were tarpon everywhere as has been the cast the last few flat calm days.  They weren’t too happy though we drifted with live mullet, crabs, and even threw some various artificials.  We had one blow up a live mullet and eat, though we didn’t hook him as the hook got twisted around.  After that we had a few boil on the artificials, and one almost jumped in the boat chasing it though not sure if he was just spooked or trying to eat or what. We did have a couple sharks eat the live mullets though they cut us off near the boat. Anyways mid day we played with the tripletails again and had fun with that.  In the afternoon we found some tarpon in one of the backcountry channels, we jumped 1 off and caught a few more sharks and that was it.  It was nice in the channel the weed in this particular one wasn’t too bad as it has been further out in the other gulf channels.  I may try that tomorrow early in the morning.  They are being finicky right now seems it’s either too crazy windy or simply too nice.  I think once the fish settle in they should start getting happier.  0 for 2
