4/5/16 Morning and Evening half day tarpon trips

This morning I had Jeff and crew from CDW they’ve come for several years to fish with Bud n’ Mary’s.  They wanted dinner but I had some tarpon bait and fishing was good yesterday so we gave it a shot first.  We hooked up a nice smaller fish at the bridge on the incoming tide and landed him.  We normally do not boat tarpon but if they are under 40 inches you are still allowed to so I got a good hold of his head and belly and lifted him gently for a quick pic before release.  After that we gave it a little longer and then decided to go catch our dinner.  1 for 1

This evening fishing was tough the wind laid out flat and we had the last of the weak falling tide.  We saw some fish at a bridge and moved around a bit trying to line up on them.  They didn’t seem to want to respond but eventually we got one to eat.  We landed him a nice 60 lb fish.  After that the tide really quit and started to come in slowly.  We ran over a group of about 500 fish when we switched spots so I stopped and gave it a little while.  We had tarpon finning and literally passing right underneath our bobbers.  But they were not interested we had a few sharks bite us off.  Then at the end of the night I moved one more time and we had some fish at least give us some cheap shots but wouldn’t commit to eat the bait, and another shark stole a bait away out from under a tarpon.  Anyways was glad we got one several other boats fishing I know didn’t have any luck this night.  1 for 1

4/4/16 April Tarpon Fishing in Islamorada

Had a full day today but we ended up cutting it short due to weather.  We caught a nice tarpon first thing this morning in the channels with the last of the incoming tide.  Saw a few more fish but no other bites.  My live bait was delivered soon after and we went and looked at a few more spots as the tide was quitting but not much life.  We did some light tackle stuff for a little while then caught the start of the falling tide down around another bridge area.  The tarpon were thick and we soon had action.  We caught a couple more here, lost one on a jump, and had plenty of other cheap shots and another solid bite or two.  It was as good as it gets and then the rain chased us away.  Fishing should stay hot for a while now.  3 for 6

4/3/16 Islamorada Tarpon Fishing Report

Got out today with John and his buds after tarpon and other things.  We found a big ball of bait early this morning and loaded up that helped tremendously.  Though I had a tough day yesterday seeing this first thing made me change my mind about tarpon fishing today so we got right at it.  We found some fish locally in the channels and set up though we had the change of the tide and a storm rolled in.  So we docked into the dock for 30 minutes to wait it out.  Things were fine soon after and the tide was rolling out so we ventured out again.  We found the tarpon in the same area and set up we had some cheap shots and soon hooked a nice 90 lb fish John landed.  Then we had a few more cheap shots and caught a big jack, then we hooked another tarpon that we lost on a crab trap line unfortunately.  We also had a big shark come out and chase the tarpon I think a hammerhead just saw him for a moment.  After that we went patch fishing and then for the last couple hours we tried for tarpon again.  No luck in the first stop, though the 2nd stop we started wailing on them.  We hooked several and landed two more with plenty of other cheap shots.  It was incredible action on the last of the outgoing tide.  Looking forward to tomorrow have a morning and an evening trip.  3 for 7
