4/7/13 Channel 5 bridge tarpon fishing

Had an early morning trip this morning going after some tarpon fishing islamorada.  We hit some of the local bridges which often hold fish year round, though in the spring are home to many migrating fish as well.  We did some channel 5 bridge tarpon fishing.  The tide was incoming all morning, we left at 6 AM and hit it early.  No bites in the darkness surprisingly.  Moved around once we could see a bit and found some fish rolling at some other pilings. We had 3 bites on live mullets on the surface though weren’t able to drive the hooks into any of them.  No bites on the bottom baits, and a couple other bust the mullets and miss them.  The tarpon have been around though appears to be mostly local fish.  Though now that the weather is stabilizing I imagine a lot of migrators should show up!

Islamorada Tarpon Fishing

4/5/13 Some more tarpon today!

Well the rain and wind didn’t stop us from venturing out to squeeze a half day islamorada tarpon fishing charter in.  It actually was fairly nice the winds did not howl till later in the day, and not much rain in the Islamorada area only a drizzle on the way home.  Mullet were everywhere again though we had some from yesterday.  We had a couple bites on bottom baits, and a couple nice lively strikes on the live surface baits as well.  We ended up catching 2 out of 4 tarpon.  Also caught 2 big nurse sharks, and a monster size jack crevalle.  All in all a fun day, beats sitting in the hotel room twiddling your thumbs!

4/4/13 Tarpon fishing in Islamorada

Well been getting back to tarpon fishing now that the last cold front had been over.  The last few nights had been a little tough, we went 0/3 last night losing a fish in the bridge and not getting tight on the 2 before that, but that is tarpon fishing in islamorada for you. Today we made up for it though we went 4/4 in the backcountry everglades tarpon fishing this morning by 10 am.  This evening we did an evening tarpon fishing charter and went 4/9 which is great fishing.  All fish on live fresh caught mullet this morning!  8/13 in a day, woo hoo!  The wind is suppose to crank tomorrow and blow 30+ mph so may not be good fishing for a few days, plus the temperature will dip slightly but not too cold.  We may try dead baiting a bit around the channels as there won’t be many other options, but that is a good one for a day like that!
