9/6/15 September Florida Keys Tarpon Fishing

Fished today and gave the tarpon a try.  Bait was OK this morning but will probably be tough for the next week again or so as we have falling tides in the early morning.  That has been much more difficult for the bait catching.  Anyways we fished around flamingo tried some different channels from yesterday first thing.  No love again not even any shark bites, the sharks are few and far between too.  We then ran and fished the same channel I tried yesterday which had been good a couple weeks ago.  We fished hard and after 20 minutes or so we finally go our bite and Steve landed a nice 60 lb tarpon.  That was it though no more tarpon or shark bites, did not see much rolling or any other signs of life.  We decided to finish the rest of the day with trout and snapper on the light rods.  That fishing was very good.  1 for 1

9/5/15 September Tarpon Fishing in Islamorada

Had some days off and was out of town for a few days but got back to the grind today.  Being September this is our slowest month of the year so I may only be fishing a couple days a week.  Though I am booked tomorrow and then pulling my boat to have some work down on Monday, I will be running another small skiff in the mean time.  Anyways today we fished a 3/4 day and got out on the water early.  Caught some bait on the way back to Flamingo, nice that they were fairly easy to catch.  Anyways we did not see much at all for tarpon I fished a couple different channels and in some areas off the shoreline where tarpon had been a week ago.  Though did not see much of anything, not even a shark bite, things were very tough.  Anyways after a couple hours of that we bailed and decided to bend the light rods with some snapper and trout fishing which was pretty good and we were able to get some for dinner.  Tomorrow we may try again for a little bit for tarpon in the morning but likely not going to devote the day to it, right now you have to take what you can get fishing is not easy!  0 for 0

8/28/15 Late August Tarpon Fishing in the Everglades

Back at it again today.  Yesterday we got cancelled due to crazy weather.  I thought today may be more of the same but not so.  Light southereasterly winds.  Anyways bait was very tough we check 3 spots and the final spot we finally saw a handful flipping and were able to catch 30 or so.  Falling tides in the AM have been tough on the bait and today was no exception.  Anyways we ran around flamingo to where the tarpon had been good last week on the incoming water.  We did not see much tough we had a shark bite after 20 minutes or so.  He pulled off and then saw a tarpon rolling behind our boat.  A few minutes later we hooked him and chased after him.  We landed a nice 60 lb fish.  After that things got very grassy likely due to the crazy wind/storms the previous days.  We moved around and tried a couple other spots, though no life at all.  We ran out off the beaches to the west to catch the start of the incoming tide.  Tried a couple different areas though could not even get a shark bite – very slow fishing.  We then ran back towards flamingo to catch the start of the incoming tide there and tried another channel.  We had a few shark bites there and did catch a big blacktip to finish the day.  Anyways slow day though any day you get a tarpon is a good one, especially this late in the year!  1 for 1
