Well had a day off yesterday and then Andy with his boys Derek and Conrad again today. Had some bait leftover from our trip the day before yesterday but we tried to get a few freshies. They weren’t easy and I was glad we had some to start with. They were running hard when I got there and one toss we only got 1, then on the other end of the channel a group came out already moving but not super fast. Was able to get one good toss of about 15 baits, mostly black mullet again. Anyways we checked some channels and did not see much life it was flat calm to start then we tried off the beach. Tried one area on the end of the falling tide and did not see much life, a few sharks. Then we ran where the fish had been the last few days as the tide was starting in. Did not see anything as far as rolling or busting fish which was funny. Though we eventually did get a bite we missed and soon after another 90 lber that Conrad hooked and landed again. A longer 45 minute battle. We caught plenty of sharks including a big lemon. After that we kept at the tarpon and tried the channels where we found them the other afternoon. Though this time it was all lemon sharks. We caught about half a dozen and it was super hot – i noticed the water temperature was about 92! Anyways we had about 30 minutes left and we tried another close by channel. I was counting down the seconds before winding them up when Derek had a bite and as soon as he felt pressure up came about a 50 lb tarpon! We were very happy and the kids came through ‘clutch’ again! 2 for 3
6/27/15 June Tarpon Fishing Report in the Everglades Cape Sable
Fished Andy and his sons Derek and Conrad, regular customers of my brothers and mine for the last several years. They are lucky fisherman and always seem to have good to fantastic days! Today we caught mullet good they finally showed up thick again, and mostly small to medium silvers which are what we really like. We fished off cape sable again and only saw a handful of tarpon showing. Though we did pick through the sharks in a couple spots and got a tarpon bite in each one, catching 1 out of 2. Smaller fish of 30 lbs or so. After that we bent the light rods for a while, lots of big trout in the bay. Then finished up fishing the backcountry channels around flamingo. We found some tarpon busting in one of them and set up, after a little while we hooked a nice 85 lber that Conrad landed. Great way to end the day! 2 for 3
6/26/15 Florida Keys June Tarpon Fishing continues
Back in the everglades again today. Bait was not super easy though we got a couple good cracks on it on our way back. Ran back to the everglades areas where we had seen tarpon. We didn’t see much where they were yesterday morning so we made a little further run and did find some jumping and rolling fish. Set up and sharks ate us up for a while though we did jump one tarpon. After that we ran still further where we had found them the other day and we got in a little rally again catching 2 out of 3 tarpon in about 45 minutes. After that the tide quit but we stuck it out. We saw a few fish airing out nearby and moved over there and sharks got on us again, though literally the last bait we put out we hooked our 3rd and final tarpon of the day. All fish were in the 50-60 lb range. 3 for 5
